At times directly resonating with works from the Kunst der Westküste Collection in the parallel exhibition Fascinating Norway, they reveal surprising links to Norwegian landscape painting from Romanticism all the way to modern art. These lyrical works repeatedly revolve around motifs related to Scandinavia’s unique light and nocturnal darkness, its characteristic icy cold deriving from its geography and the drifts of snow obscuring its watery, rocky and wooded landscapes. But they are also about solitude, melancholy ambiences and people’s survival in the midst of Norwegian nature. All of these aspects become extremely vividly intelligible in the media of photography and drawing, in conceptual and video art and in installations.
