Maria Koshenkova, known for her investigations of the human body and its iconography of violence, creates an immersive installation at TITLED, Copenhagen. Best known for her glass sculptures, Koshenkova’s new work integrates these elements into an interactive environment.

Koshenkova transforms the compact gallery space into a densely packed environment using coloured ropes suspended from the ceiling. These ropes create a labyrinthine structure that guides visitors through the space. Hidden within this jungle of ropes, Koshenkova nestles a delicate glass sculpture. This piece is not immediately visible, encouraging visitors to discover it as they move through the installation. The placement of the sculpture, combined with the density of the ropes, parallels the internal structures of the human body. The ropes add a visceral layer to the experience, creating a physical representation of the internal complexity of the body. The hidden glass sculpture can be seen as a metaphor for a living organ, representing the fragility and resilience of the human form.

The installation also includes chalk drawings on the walls that extend the environment beyond the physical space. These drawings propagate the liana-like forms of the ropes, integrating the two- and three-dimensional elements. This creates a rhythmic, fluid structure throughout the gallery, reverberating with organic growth patterns and the chaos of a living ecosystem. “Entwined” seeks to create a sensory experience that transcends the visual.
