Lotte Gertz’ practice encompasses painting, collage and printmaking. Weaver’s Nest is a new body of work consisting of large scale experimental woodcut prints and monotypes.

This body of work was largely developed during a residency at Statens’ Værksteder for Kunst/the Danish Art Workshops in the autumn of 2021.

Using the concept of the container and informed by Ursula K. Le Guin’s feminist essay The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction, Gertz has explored various forms of the vessel. These containing forms become part of her visual lexicon; vases, urns, caps, t-shirts, breasts, clouds, fluids, milk, ashes…….

Fluctuating between control and loss of control the work is developed through the push and pull of preconceived imagery and intuitive process.

Gertz is concerned with finding a way through making and thinking – and thinking through making – that questions hierarchies and expresses a visual poetry that invites intimate looking.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a new text written by Olga Nowotny.
