Keiji Shinohara: Japanese Wood Block Prints – A Retrospective Exhibition
6 okt 20175 nov 2017

Over the last thirty years, printmaker Shinohara Keiji has built up an impressive collection of important works, which will be exhibited in Scandinavia for the first time at the Gl. Rådhus in Thisted.

This exhibition contains works from his time in Japan, and also the artist’s early, middle, and later periods in the United States.

Keiji Shinohara, Sommasso

Throughout his artistic journey, Mr. Shinohara has consistently focused on themes of Nature, Landscape, Tradition, and Modernity, and it is possible to view his treatment of these themes over almost four decades. Working primarily with woodblock printing, which can involve over 20 different printing stages, Shinohara is acknowledged as one of the outstanding figures in his field, and has exhibited widely in museums and galleries around the world.

Select monoprints will also be on display. In 2014 The Smithsonian Museum’s Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C. invested significant resources in documenting Shinohara’s working process, and these videos, as well as a select group of his tools and materals, will also be featured during the exhibition.

During 2016 and 2017, Shinohara has been resident artist at Tolne Gjæstgivergaard and Den Grafisk Værksted, Hjørring, who have helped to produce this exhibition of important prints.
