Alice Máselníková: Enchanted souls, abandoned bodies

It is strange with the body, that when it fails us, it always comes as a surprise. Broken body corrupts the mind, or is it the other way round?

The five works in “Enchanted souls, abandoned bodies” contemplate the fragile symbiosis of the flesh, spirit and mind, in sickness and in health. Three in one, and it is still not enough to find answers. Through adoration of skin the paintings inquire into how people interact with other bodies, what measures we take to attach ourselves to someone and reach beyond our existential solitude; where we look and how we touch.

Alice Máselníková (b. 1989, Zlín, Czech Republic) is a painter, curator and editor based in Stockholm. Life models, poetry, bodies and minds intertwine to capture the fleeting moment, intimacy of touch and strange subtleties of pain.

She holds a BA (Hons) in Art and Philosophy from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Arts and Design, Dundee; MA in Curating Art from Stockholm University; and studied Bellas Artes at Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. She is one of the three creative directors of Supermarket – Stockholm Independent Art Fair, founder of the artist-run initiative Flat Octopus, project leader of Artist-Run Network Europe and project manager at Intercult.
